This era is witnessing a great scientific and knowledge progress in several fields, especially the field of digital technology, and cultural heritage must not deviate from these accelerating transformations. Culture is an advanced concept that reduces the outcome of art, heritage and knowledge through time. Contemporary impacts on the living patterns of nations and peoples. Digital technologies play a positive role in creating a cultural archive that preserves heritage for future generations. It also contributes to enhancing knowledge and cultural exchange between different human societies.
The research discusses the role of digital technology in preserving cultural heritage in general and architectural heritage in particular. Architectural heritage is one of the most prominent fields affected by the digital revolution, as it provides impressive and diverse means of presentation and interpretation, in addition to its great ability to disseminate information on the widest scale.
The research aims to enhance the role of digital technology in preserving the heritage attributes in the Egyptian historic urbanism, by activating this approach within the Siwa Oasis, whether during the documentation or presentation stages, as an effective alternative that can be absorbed and adopted by the various heritage management bodies, which can include many of the development partners.
The study follows the qualitative research based on the grounded theory methodology and the case study methodology. The research discusses the different approach of heritage management through digital technology, and then the research applies those approaches within the Siwa Oasis, starting with the accurate documentation, study and analysis of this heritage, passing through the advanced methods of preservation and restoration, As well as advanced means for museum and archaeological presentation, and ending with advertising, media, publishing and education.
The research concludes with the importance of the role that digital technology in the field of cultural heritage, as it enhances understanding of heritage from monitoring and documentation processes to various methods of presentation, as well as encouraging users to appreciate heritage, as a sustainable means of preserving it, but we must pay attention not to reformulate the past according to our views of it, which leads to the possibility of reversing inaccurate perceptions of heritage, it is necessary to root the heritage elements within these digital technologies.
